Sports drink is primarily developed for energy replenishment during training and competition, focusing on carbohydrates, and often contains relatively little sodium in relation to the amount of sugar. Electrolyte powder like ELECT is developed specifically to replace the minerals – primarily sodium – that healthy, active adults lose through sweat during exercise.

When to Choose What?
If you train hard, for a long time, or sweat a lot and want to replenish sodium without added sugar, an electrolyte powder like ELECT is a natural choice. If you or your child is ill and losing fluids due to diarrhea or vomiting, a rehydration solution from the pharmacy is the right choice – it’s not the same thing, and ELECT does not replace traditional rehydration solutions for illness. If you need quick energy in the form of carbohydrates during a long race, a sports drink can serve a purpose, but keep in mind that it is rarely optimized for sodium replenishment.
Can They Be Combined?
Yes. Many endurance athletes combine carbohydrate sources (gels, sports drinks) for energy with a separate electrolyte supplement for sodium, especially during sessions longer than two hours or in hot weather.
